The rise of the #MeToo movement has thrown back the curtain on gender-based violence with a focus on sexual harassment, resulting in a global call for safer workplaces. The movement reveals a hidden truth: gender-based violence happens everywhere. For many this seems obvious, but what about a market development expert? An agricultural extensionist?
Among children under five years of age in the developing world, nearly one-quarter are underweight (127 million) and one-third are stunted (195 million). Over 90 percent of those who are stunted live in Africa and Asia (U.N. Children’s Fund [UNICEF] 2009, 2011a). These forms of undernutrition can have long-lasting and damaging effects on children, especially when it occurs during critical developmental years.
EnCompass conducted the midterm evaluation of USC Canada’s Seeds of Survival program. USC Canada promotes vibrant family farms, strong rural communities, and healthy ecosystems around the world, by focusing on activities that build food and livelihood security for small-scale farmers, and preserve the agricultural biodiversity necessary to feeding a growing and changing planet. Its core program, Seeds of Survival, works in partnerships with farming communities in 12 countries around the world.
In its aim to end global hunger, the World Food Programme(WFP) is striving to plan and commission independent, credible and useful evaluation evidence across the organization. With this in mind, WFP asked EnCompass to co-design and implement a comprehensive learning programme to build the capacity of all of its staff in evaluation principles and management. The Evaluation Learning Programme (EvalPro) targets all staff with the skills and knowledge they require to engage with or manage evaluations.
EnCompass is engaged under the Performance Management and Support Program for Lebanon II (PMSPL II) to integrate gender into design, planning, implementation, and evaluation of USAID/Lebanon activities. EnCompass provides gender reviews of evaluation plans and tools for mission programs and implementing partner projects.
EnCompass collaborated with a Rome-based Food Agency to create a suite of just-in-time performance support tools (job aids, templates, checklists, and short videos) for staff at country offices. In addition to the tools, EnCompass also designed an on-line learning platform-- where the tools are housed-- and developed and delivered a series of virtual instructor-led sessions on topics targeted to enhance and strengthen the expertise and capacity of agency leaders stationed at critical country posts.
EnCompass designed a two-module, four-month blended Management Development Program that emphasized a strengths-based management approach for this United Nations (UN) Agency, whose work is focused around agriculture and food security. The participants benefitted from on-line collaboration tools, individual coaching, face to face modules, on-line and paper resources, application activities, and peer coaching opportunities. The program educated participants on how to manage themselves and their teams more effectively.
EnCompass provided organizational, logistics, facilitation, and reporting services on behalf of the U.S. Department of Labor’s initiatives to eliminate the worst forms of child labor around the world. Over the course of several contracts, EnCompass has provided the following services:
EnCompass supported the Peace Corp’s Food Security Program to revise a series of 18 training manuals on community agricultural practices that provide sustainable, adequate nutrition. PC Volunteers will use these manuals in the field as part of its engagement with the Feed the Future Initiative. EnCompass updated the technical content and presentation layout of the manuals to ensure ease and accuracy of use.
