The USAID maternal and child health and nutrition (MCHN) Activity aims to strengthen government performance in implementing strategies to improve maternal, newborn, and child health and nutrition outcomes in Uganda. EnCompass conducted a comprehensive Gender, Youth, and Social Inclusion (GYSI) analysis to identify gaps, opportunities, and practices in access to and use of MCH and nutrition services by marginalized and underserved populations—including women and girls, youth, individuals with disabilities, low-income groups, certain ethnic and religious groups, and orphans and vulnerable children.

The study team conducted the analysis in two phases: a national-level document review and a Kampala level GYSI analysis. The document review aimed to identify opportunities and gaps in national MCH and nutrition policies and guidelines, as well as their implementation and measurement, for issues related to gender, youth development, and social inclusion to improve implementation of national MCH and nutrition strategies, strengthen governance and leadership, and contribute to improving MCH and nutrition in Uganda.

This report presents the methodology, findings, and identified gaps and opportunities from the document review. There is a separate report for the phase 2 Kampala GYSI Analysis.
