Gender-Based Violence Landscape Analysis in Ethiopia

The USAID Transform: Primary Health Care Project provides technical assistance to strengthen Ethiopia’s health systems and support the Ethiopian government’s efforts to prevent child and maternal deaths. In 2017–2018, the project conducted a gender analysis, led by EnCompass team members, to identify gender gaps and opportunities to achieve its objectives. The gender analysis findings showed a gap in the health sector’s understanding and implementation of gender-based violence (GBV) prevention and response. To address this gap, the project conducted a GBV landscape analysis to map and comprehensively understand the Ethiopian health system’s existing GBV prevention and response mechanisms, and identify opportunities to support the Ministry of Health in improving them.

This synthesis report presents the methodology and synthesized findings, conclusions, and recommendations from the study. The project also developed context-specific case studies for each of the project’s four implementation regions, which can be accessed via the links below:
