EnCompass is working with Abt Associates on the USAID The U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) Evolve Project. This is an integrated five-year activity focused on increasing local investment and leadership, adapting to climate change and greener practices, and promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment in malaria vector control programming.

The PMI Evolve team supports PMI and U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Missions and Bureaus with planning, implementing, and monitoring malaria vector control programs in 21 countries. These programs include entomological monitoring, indoor residual spraying (IRS), distribution of insecticide-treated nets (ITNs), and larval source management (LSM). This project is strengthening the capacity of local institutions, including national malaria programs, district health offices, and research institutions, to independently implement vector control programs.

Through this contract, EnCompass serves as the lead partner in the co-design, co-implementation, and joint monitoring of PMI Evolve’s overall capacity-strengthening approach, designing activities and materials to build in-country capacity in the various technical and organizational competencies needed to plan, implement, and monitor successful malaria vector control activities. EnCompass is also facilitating gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) integration and safeguarding across the project, including the development of GESI integration guidelines and the inclusion of appropriate gender equity messages in training materials to model GESI integration and ensure the protection of women and persons with marginalized identities who participate in vector control activities.

Additional PMI Evolve partners include PATH; Population Services International; BAO Systems; Dimagi Inc.; Health Information Systems Program Centre at the University of Oslo and its affiliates in West and Central Africa and Uganda; Malaria Consortium; Tropical Health; and the University of California, San Francisco, Malaria Elimination Initiative.
