As a subcontractor to Social Impact, EnCompass is supporting activities to integrate gender issues into design, planning, implementation, and evaluation of Mission activities. Support has included developing gender resources -- a gender compliance toolkit, “How To” Guides for USAID staff and implementing partners on how to use the toolkit, a gender compliance training for USAID staff and implementing partners, and a gender guide for agriculture value chain. EnCompass provides regular gender reviews of evaluation plans and tools for Mission programs and implementing partner projects.

EnCompass worked with Oceana, the largest international advocacy organization focused on ocean conservation, as the DC-based NGO’s learning and development partner. Having experienced enormous growth in the last 3 years, Oceana has 16 offices in North America, Central America, South America, Europe and Asia. Beginning in 2015, EnCompass was hired to work with Oceana leadership to develop a learning and development framework to guide on-boarding of staff and a full year of development for new staff, with the goal of creating a “One Oceana” culture throughout the growing organization. EnCompass is a subcontractor to the University Research Co., LLC on this 5-year project designed to build the capacity of host country systems to improve the effectiveness, efficiency, client-centeredness, safety, accessibility, and equity of the health services they provide. The project also seeks to generate new knowledge to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of applying improvement methods in low- and middle-income countries.

EnCompass activities include: qualitative research; implementing evaluation and evaluation capacity building; providing technical assistance related to human resource development and HIV/AIDS; developing eLearning modules; facilitating strategic planning and team building activities; and performing cost-effective analyses.

Through the ADVANTAGE IDIQ, EnCompass was engaged by USAID to design a course on how to integrate GBV into USAID programming activities. The course, Integrating Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Response across Sectors, is a blended program that engages participants at intervals over a 4-month period. The training includes virtual and face-to-face components, as well as practicum activities and a mentoring program. For the USAID Missions in Pakistan and Afghanistan, EnCompass is providing training and technical support to help integrate USAID gender policy into programs and into all elements of the program cycle. Technical assistance includes conducting gender analysis and incorporating findings of gender analyses into solicitations, as well as project designs, performance management plans, and evaluations. ADVANTAGE partner MSI is a subcontractor on this project.

As part of the program to monitor USAID activities in northern Afghanistan, EnCompass is subcontracting to MSI to provide technical assistance on gender sensitive monitoring and verification tools as well as designing and delivering training to local partners on the USAID gender policy requirements. We conducted an analysis of implementing partners’ knowledge of USAID policy and conducted a training for staff and data collectors to prepare for gender sensitive monitoring and verification processes.

EnCompass is a subcontractor to John Snow Inc. for the AIDSFree project, which aims to improve the effectiveness of high-impact, evidence-based HIV interventions, and accelerate the speed with which these interventions are brought to scale at the country-level. Through Gender and Quality Improvement advisor roles, EnCompass provides capacity development and technical support to USAID missions, host-country governments, and HIV/AIDS implementers at the local, regional, and national levels building on the accomplishments of USAID’s predecessor project, AIDSTAR-ONE.

The Gates Foundation Global Libraries (GL) Program aims to build strong and healthy communities, businesses, and learning environments in developing countries around the world by providing free access to computers and the internet in public libraries. EnCompass provided capacity building assistance to grantees of the program, and delivered customized support to country grantees' impact evaluation teams. Activities included: developing and delivering training in M&E best practices, training for impact data collection and analysis, and technical assistance on communicating results. Over the life of the project, EnCompass supported grantees in Colombia, Moldova, Jamaica, Costa Rica and Botswana.

EnCompass delivered two core training programs to NCCC Team Leaders and Corps Members, ages 18-24, to develop their management competencies and deepen their understanding of cultural diversity issues. The Diversity in Service Training program addressed: increasing awareness of self, culture and identity; applying conflict resolution strategies and tools; understanding communications challenges in diverse cultures; and exploring multiculturalism.
