Director, Gender and Inclusive Development
Dr. Patricia T. Morris is Director of Gender and Inclusive Development at EnCompass. She is an internationally known expert in gender equality and social inclusion, co-author of Getting Equitable Education on the Global Agenda: Lessons in Collective Advocacy at the United Nations (2016), and a senior gender mainstreaming specialist with more than 20 years of international development experience. She has worked in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. Before joining EnCompass, she was Managing Director and Principal Consultant at Morris Consulting, where she led the firm’s work strengthening individual and institutional capacity for gender equality and social inclusion, and served as Team Leader on gender analyses and assessments for USAID in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Jordan, and West Africa. Previously, she managed a global portfolio of social and economic development projects at Development & Training Services, where she led the organization’s work on the USAID Gender-Based Violence Research Agenda. She also developed InterAction’s Gender Audit, a globally acclaimed organizational self-assessment process for institutional gender action planning that has been used by international NGOs, local NGOs, and USAID missions.
Dr. Morris’ career includes leadership for global and country-specific organizations and initiatives advocating and providing technical assistance for women’s inclusion, funding for women’s and girls’ priorities in global development policy, integrating gender in education, education in conflict, and workforce development, and convening networks of women peace builders promoting and leading work on women’s inclusion in conflict mitigation, peace, and security. She holds a PhD in International Politics from Florida State University, an MA in Comparative Politics with an emphasis on Economic Development from Bowling Green State University, and a BA in International Affairs from Jacksonville University. She is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Society for International Development-Washington and a native of St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
