Under a five-year contract with USAID, EnCompass manages the Global Health Professional and Organizational Development (GHPOD) II program. GHPOD’s role is to provide professional and organizational development support to USAID’s health sector staff around the world to build their capacity to lead and manage health programs. Through the GHPOD mechanism, EnCompass provides a variety of training and learning programs to build capacity in technical areas, program management, leadership, personal and team effectiveness, retreats and strategic meetings, and staff performance management.
EnCompass worked with Oceana, the largest international advocacy organization focused on ocean conservation, as the DC-based NGO’s learning and development partner. Having experienced enormous growth in the last 3 years, Oceana has 16 offices in North America, Central America, South America, Europe and Asia. Beginning in 2015, EnCompass was hired to work with Oceana leadership to develop a learning and development framework to guide on-boarding of staff and a full year of development for new staff, with the goal of creating a “One Oceana” culture throughout the growing organization.
This is International Coaching Week and the coaching world certainly has a lot to celebrate. In twenty years, executive coaching has grown from a poorly understood practice to one that is in ever greater demand as an effective tool for helping staff to perform at their best. The International Coaching Federation describes the role and affect of coaching as follows:
EnCompass designed and delivered the Leadership Development Program for USAID’s Bureau for Democracy, Conflict and Humanitarian Assistance (DCHA). The blended program focused on leadership in volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous environments, for mid- and senior-level managers and supervisors. The program was delivered through two, multi-day face-to-face workshops, in-person coaching, and intersession collaboration and action learning practicums.
EnCompass designed a two-module, four-month blended Management Development Program that emphasized a strengths-based management approach for this United Nations (UN) Agency, whose work is focused around agriculture and food security. The participants benefitted from on-line collaboration tools, individual coaching, face to face modules, on-line and paper resources, application activities, and peer coaching opportunities. The program educated participants on how to manage themselves and their teams more effectively.
EnCompass converted a three-week Operational Research program delivered via face-to-face training into a blended learning program which now includes six virtual instructor-led (synchronous) training sessions delivered through Adobe Connect, intersession work supported by a Moodle-based course portal, and coaching from subject-matter experts. In addition to completing the design for all program sessions and topics, the EnCompass team is also facilitating and producing the vILT sessions.
EnCompass conducted an evaluation to help the Aspen Institute measure the impact of its Ministerial Leadership Initiative (MLI), which works to build the leadership capacity of senior teams from the Ministries of Health in Ethiopia, Mali, Nepal, Senegal, and Sierra Leone to advance health reforms and more effectively carry out global health initiatives. The evaluation reviewed the initiative’s leadership and peer coaching models as applied to equity financing, donor harmonization, and reproductive health.
This program aimed to strengthen the ability of community groups, NGOs, and the Government of Albania to improve anti-trafficking prevention programs, as well as reintegrate survivors of trafficking and prevent re-trafficking. As a subcontractor to Creative Associates International, Inc., EnCompass designed and facilitated the project launch and three annual conferences with key stakeholders and conducted a participatory evaluation of the work nationwide.
EnCompass provided technical assistance to the Government of Botswana’s Ministry of Education and Skills Development to support the implementation of a curriculum to build life skills for school-going youth. The curriculum, Living Skills for Life: Botswana’s Window of Hope, is part of a major HIV prevention effort that targets every primary and secondary school student in the country.
