This toolkit was developed to support the implementation of the USAID Gender Equality and Female Empowerment Policy. It provides guidance and resources for USAID/Lebanon staff and implementing mechanisms (IMs) about how to integrate gender throughout USAID’s program cycle, including monitoring and evaluating. The Toolkit provides the following components: an overview of USAID’s policy guidance on gender integration; guidance on gender analyses and integrating gender into solicitations, monitoring, evaluating, and learning; and tools for gender integration.

EnCompass completed a scoping mission in August 2016 for the 4Children project in Kenya. The scoping mission sought to gather information to determine if Kenya would be an appropriate location for 4Children’s pilot of the AIDSFree Strengthening Linkages between Clinical and Social Services for Children and Adolescents who Have Experienced Sexual Violence: A Companion Guide, which was developed by EnCompass. The report provides recommendations for designing and operationalizing the intervention through efforts such as establishing referral pathways and improving community/clinical coordination for child and adolescent survivors of sexual violence.

A Comprehensive Review of Community Schools in Zambia

While a number of studies have examined community schools in Zambia, there has not been a comprehensive overview since 2006. Many of these studies focus on a narrow topic within the field of community schools, or have small sample sizes that impede the ability to generalize broadly. Consequently, there is a need to synthesize findings across studies and data sources in order to present an accurate “big picture” and summarize the most important factors that will have bearing on current and future community school initiatives.

In March 2012, USAID issued an updated, expanded Gender Equality and Female Empowerment (GE/FE) Policy designed “to improve the lives of citizens around the world by advancing equality between females and males, and empowering women and girls to participate fully in and benefit from the development of their societies.” 

The GE/FE Policy includes a requirement for USAID to “assess the implementation” of the Policy in 2015. The USAID Bureau for Policy, Planning and Learning (PPL) contracted EnCompass LLC to carry out portions of this assessment (see Annex 1 for Statement of Work).
