This special study for Save the Children’s Saving Newborn Lives (SNL) program provided an opportunity to return to two countries, Indonesia and Mali, four years after SNL ended its in-country activities. The study has three components: two case studies which investigate what has happened to the momentum for and institutionalization of newborn health in Indonesia and Mali, and a synthesis report that draws lessons from the two case studies.

The reports provide a background of each country’s status prior to the start of SNL and summarize progress made between 2000 and 2010, using SNL’s “pathway to effective coverage” as a framework. EnCompass completed a scoping mission in August 2016 for the 4Children project in Kenya. The scoping mission sought to gather information to determine if Kenya would be an appropriate location for 4Children’s pilot of the AIDSFree Strengthening Linkages between Clinical and Social Services for Children and Adolescents who Have Experienced Sexual Violence: A Companion Guide, which was developed by EnCompass. The report provides recommendations for designing and operationalizing the intervention through efforts such as establishing referral pathways and improving community/clinical coordination for child and adolescent survivors of sexual violence.

In 2014, USAID/Tanzania awarded the Tanzania Strengthening Police and Prison Comprehensive HIV Services (SPPCHS) project as an initiative under the AIDSFree project. AIDSFree held two training of trainers (TOT) in Dodoma to train 55 prison officers from 26 prison facilities to train prison staff and inmates on the new peer education program. This report presents the findings from these evaluations, suggests some recommendations for future TOTs of this kind, and summarizes the sessions delivered.

Save the Children’s Saving Newborn Lives (SNL) program commissioned EnCompass LLC to conduct a series of five organizational network analyses (ONA) to gain insight into the current functioning of newborn communities in Bangladesh, Malawi, Nepal, Uganda, and at the global level. ONA is a technique that maps interactions between organizations and identifies relationship structures and patterns.
