Ann Hendrix-Jenkins

Director, Capacity Strengthening

Ann Hendrix-Jenkins is EnCompass’ Director of Capacity Strengthening. She supports a dynamic capacity development team, coordinates closely with EnCompass’ Learning & Leadership Development team, and collaborates across the company on projects in gender and inclusive development, evaluation, and more. 

Ms. Hendrix-Jenkins has over 32 years of experience in international development, dating back to her time serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Botswana. Since then, her work has taken her to dozens of countries, where she has lent her expertise to roles such as researcher, facilitator, program designer, and manager. Ms. Hendrix-Jenkins’ work has increasingly focused on capacity development and sustainability, fostered through appreciative approaches, true partnerships among adults, community-led development, and shared joy. She has supported a range of technical programs focusing on maternal and child health; HIV, TB, and pandemic influenza; nutrition; social and behavior change for health; health policy; women’s empowerment; livelihoods; microfinance; and governance. She sees state-of-the-art approaches to capacity development and sustainability—including Capacity 2.0 and systems approaches; inclusive engagement; and true co-creation from the get go—as the next wave of development progress. 

Ms. Hendrix-Jenkins has created and authored a wide range of tools and media, and she has designed and managed many innovative programs and projects. She holds an MA in International Development from American University, and a BA in Literature and Art from Tulane University. She holds certificates in Systems Thinking and Data Visualization.
