Since 2016, EnCompass has supported the MacArthur Foundation’s Big Bet On Nigeria program as the Evaluation and Learning Partner. The On Nigeria program aims to assist Nigerian-led efforts to reduce corruption by strengthening accountability, transparency, and participation. The multilayered program, comprising roughly $100 million in grants to 200+ organizations working in Nigeria, takes a systems-level perspective to tackle corruption, and places emphasis on work focused on behavior change, criminal justice, media and journalism, and collaboration (Joinbodi).

As the On Nigeria Evaluation and Learning Partner, EnCompass works closely with the Foundation’s Evaluation Office and the On Nigeria Program Team to facilitate the design and implementation of evidence-based strategies, measure progress toward intended outcomes and impacts, and deliver just-in-time evidence and learning, which can help the Foundation and grantees make better, more impactful decisions. Corruption is a complex and ever-evolving phenomenon. EnCompass therefore integrates systems-thinking throughout this work while drawing on utilization-focused, collaborative, and developmental evaluation approaches. In line with the Foundation’s design/build strategy, EnCompass supports the Program Team and partners in engaging in iterative cycles of evidence-based learning, adaptation, and action.

EnCompass works with the Foundation to publish evaluation results, and engage broader audiences continually. Under a separate contract, EnCompass provides grant-level technical assistance for monitoring and evaluation to On Nigeria’s grantees.
